   Summary

Joe Gavilan is a seasoned cop in Hollywood's Homicide Division. His partner, K.C. Calden, is a green, "wet-behind-the-ears" rookie.

Together, they are thrown into the world of hip-hop music in order to solve the recent rash of murders of promising young rap stars.

They work together solving the crimes, all the while pursuing outside interests of their own. Gavilan moonlights as a real estate agent, and spends as much time struggling to close the "big deal" as he does in solving the crime. K.C. is a yoga instructor and aspiring actor, whose talents with the ladies far outweighs his talent on the stage.

Both get more than they bargained for when Lt. Bennie Macko of the Internal Affairs Division begins an investigation of Gavilan.

As Joe's partner, Calden is inevitably drawn into the situation as well, which leads him to a startling discovery regarding the death of his father, a former L.A. cop and ex-partner of Leroy Wasley, who now runs security for the record company mogul Joe and K.C. are investigating in conjunction with their murder case.

Macko's investigation into Joe's dealings becomes a personal vendetta when he learns that his ex-girlfriend, Ruby, is now dating Gavilan.

   Ruby - Lena Olin

Ruby is a psychic with a weakness for cops. She has her own successful call-in radio show, and she and Joe are just celebrating their "three week anniversary".

Ruby helps K.C. and Joe solve their case, when a skeptical, but desperate, Gavilan asks her to lend her psychic abilities in an effort to locate Antoine Sartain, the music mogul they believe to be behind the murders.

What ensues is a hilarious sequence that leads them to Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.

Lena Olin on her character: "She has her own show and she's hugely successful, which you can tell from the money she has, she shops like crazy, the posters all over the city with 'Ruby, the Psychic'... I think she has psychic abilities for sure, but I think she makes a lot up, she makes a meal out of it. She really knows how to play people. She's a great, upbeat, funny, smart lady."
